How to Know When It’s Time to Replace Your Old Vehicle

Does it feel like something on your vehicle breaks every time you start it up? If so, it’s probably time to consider replacing it with a newer model. You might be able to save money in the long run by doing minor repairs here and there, but if you are staring down repairs that cost more than what the car is worth, a new vehicle might be a better investment. Today we’ll look at a few other signs that your old car is ready for retirement.

Your vehicle has well over 100,000 miles.

There are plenty of vehicles that can run for more than 100,000 miles. If you maintain a vehicle properly, you might even be able to get it to 200,000 miles. But if you’ve done a lot of repairs recently and your vehicle has passed the 100,000 mark, you should at least start to consider an upgrade.

Your vehicle gets terrible gas mileage.

Many older vehicles get really bad gas mileage compared to the newer cars on the market. As a result, you’ll pay significantly more in fuel costs if you keep your old vehicle than you would if you bought a newer vehicle. You can actually save quite a bit of money over the long haul by trading in an older vehicle that gets below-average gas mileage for a newer one that gets great gas mileage.

Your vehicle doesn’t suit your needs anymore.

A two-door hatchback might have been your ideal vehicle back in college, but now that you have a wife, two kids and a big dog, that car simply isn’t going to cut it anymore. As much as you might love your old hatchback, it’s time to replace it with something that will fit everyone.
